Employee Spotlight: Stacey Cain

It’s no secret that caring for individuals with disabilities can be challenging. At KenCCID, we look at each challenge as an opportunity to learn more about the individual. We don’t play the blame game when things don’t go as planned. Rather, we’re here to engage, restore, and nurture the individuals entrusted to our care to a place where they feel safe and can thrive

Stacey Cain exemplifies our unique approach to quality care. For her work, she was recently recognized by the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS), where she won the Habilitation Award. This award recognizes direct support and service professionals who works with an individual in day community settings. Stacey was also KenCCID’s Employee of the Month for September 2022.

Read on to learn about the impact of Stacey’s compassionate approach to an individual with disabilities.

Caring with Compassion

Stacey has been consistent in support to an individual with a challenging personality. There was a time when no support staff would support this individual. This individual displayed behaviors including hitting, kicking, spitting, and destroying property. Stacey began working with this individual by creating a comfortable living environment for her.

Stacey used her skills and her compassion to put in place a daily structure routine. She engaged and encouraged the individual in her care and understood her need for stability.

They visited stores to pick out colorful decorations to enhance her living conditions. They decorated her home together. Stacey engaged her in community outings of her choice. They went to movies, nail salons, and malls where this individual found interest in being part of the community.

With Stacey’s support, this individual is beginning to explore her community, build relationships, and learn how to appropriately interact with others in her community. As a result, almost 100 percent of behavioral incidents have been reduced.

Stacey loves what she does from home preparation to the interaction within the community. Regardless of any challenges, she always advocates for the benefit of the individuals that she supports.

Fulfilling our Mission

It is clear that Stacey has the right mindset and a heart full of compassion when it comes to caring for individuals with disabilities at KenCCID. Because of Stacey, KenCCID continues to ensure that individuals with disabilities are able to live a life full of choices that is no different from any other.
