Bessie Blount was a Black inventor of a self-feeding device to help amputee veterans.

Bessie Blount

As Black History Month comes to a close, we remember the heroes in our community:

Brad Lomax and Chuck Jackson

Dr. Patricia Bath

Mary Kenner

and,

Bessie Blount.

As the inventor of the self-feeding device, Bessie Blount helped to serve amputee veterans.

What she did not know was that for generations to come, her device would prove useful to not only the veterans it was intended for, but for all individuals with disabilities.

At KenCCID , we are inspired by the fearless five. As we learn and grow it is important that we honor these inventors and Innovators who helped to make the lives of individuals with disabilities easier.

They remind us why we do what we do.
