Bilal

Bilal began receiving support from KenCCID in March of 2011. Born 6 weeks premature, Bilal didn’t let developmental disabilities hold him back. Bilal was raised in less than ideal conditions, but with the help of his grandmother and the KenCCID staff, as well as other out-side advocates, Bilal is now on the road to success.

Temple University’s Academy for Adult Learning was researched; it seemed perfect for him. Bilal loved the idea of going to college. When he came home, he would often talk to the Direct Care Professionals about his awesome day and classmates whose situations were worse off than his.

He participated in occupational assessments that were implemented through our CIE team such as: maintenance, janitorial, landscaping and clerical. He was retrained on universal policies and procedures as well as expectations of all employers.

Bilal found his first job with Liberty Tax Services, which made him aware of interacting with customers. He currently works at Giant food store with his initial position as Bagger. Today, Bilal is working towards fulfilling his dream of being independent and living alone.
