The KenCCID team wanted to make the Advisory Board meeting special for the Individuals who participate. It was the last meeting before the Board takes a break for the summer. KenCCID Community House Managers, the Program Specialist and the Residential Director decided to have a full on BBQ.
After planning and coordinating with staff, they chose to hold the event at one of our homes. Check out Cornelius on the grill! Many of our homes & Individuals participated and brought delicious items to share. The weather was lovely and everyone enjoyed being outside, spending time together, eating good food and playing games.
The Advisory Board is a peer group that was created by and for the Individuals being served by KenCCID. It’s a place for people to come together monthly as a community and share—information, concerns, joys, food, plans, dreams—really anything they want to talk about.
Together the Individuals decide what direction the meetings will go and what they’d like to accomplish. Sometimes it’s social and includes different activities like bingo or karaoke. Sometimes it’s creative, like organizing, practicing and performing in a talent show.
The Advisory Board can also be a way for Individuals to solve problems. It’s a safe place for a person to share what is working for them at KenCCID, as well as what isn’t. Each meeting is facilitated by a KenCCID employee who takes detailed notes and helps address and resolve any issues. Participation is voluntary and everyone served by KenCCID is welcome to attend.
