Yesterday
It seems like just yesterday we were in the middle of a whirlwind pandemic. Life seems to slowly be returning to “normal” – or a “new normal”, that is.
For us here at KenCCID, we never stopped caring for those entrusted to our care.
We never stopped providing a safe and nurturing space that individuals with disabilities could call home.
We never stopped meeting the basic medical needs of our individuals.
We never stopped providing job counseling and support to allow individuals to earn a livable wage.
We never stopped.
In fact, we only got better.
Today
This year, we were honored to have one of our very own recognized for his dedication to meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Molson Kargbo won the Communication Award of Excellence at this year’s 23rd Annual Points of Transformation Awards held by the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services.
His secret sauce – communication!
He makes each one of our individuals with disabilities feel heard and understood. There is a comfort level when speaking with him and everyone knows he’ll approach a problem without judgment, listen attentively, and lend encouragement in solving the problem.
That’s who we’ve got on our team.
Congratulations Molson!!!
Tomorrow
Keeping a roof over your head is no easy feat. For individuals with disabilities, it’s even more challenging to achieve this level of independence. Sadly, our society sees accommodations that support individuals with disabilities as a burden.
At KenCCID, housing is core to our mission.
Did you know that individuals with disabilities experience poverty at a 17% higher rate than those without disabilities? This is further compounded by the lack of accommodation for individuals with disabilities at many workplaces, forcing many individuals with disabilities unable to hold steady jobs and provide for themselves.
KenCCID has been providing housing services in Philadelphia to individuals with disabilities for close to 50 years. Our homes are conveniently located near the cultural and social hubs throughout the city, including shopping, sporting events, theaters, and museums.
We are pleased to announce that we have gotten zoning approval to build a new home to accommodate even more individuals with disabilities. This new home will meet all applicable standards and guidelines of the State.
Looking Ahead
Our success in 2023 could not have been realized without the individuals who chose to receive their care from KenCCID, provided by the tireless commitment of our KenCCID staff. We remain indebted to their commitment to outstanding service.
Yesterday, today and tomorrow, we remain steadfast in fulfilling our mission:
To promote dignity and choice to empower Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities reach their full potential.
