Supporting the Right to Work

Supporting the right to work for individuals with disabilities

Transitions

For individuals with disabilities the somewhat natural progression to the workplace can be fraught with challenges. Even for able-bodied individuals, finding and landing a job can prove to be exhausting. This is even more so for individuals with disabilities.

At KenCCID, we don’t throw our hands up at how challenging it can be to find a job. Instead, we focus our resources to support the individuals with disabilities entrusted to our care. We want to ensure they can land a job that best suits their interests.

What does employment support look like for individuals with disabilities?

Many of the individuals with disabilities we support choose to work. KenCCID works with numerous employers in the Philadelphia area to ensure that these individuals can secure gainful employment. We provide Community Integration Employment Services including:

  1. Individualized Work Assessments
  2. On and Off-Site Job Search Assistance
  3. Job Coaching
  4. Job Development

Let’s look at each of these services more closely.

  1. Individualized Work Assessment

An Individualized Work Assessment explores what an individual enjoys doing, what they are good at doing, and what they want to do. Together with the help of staff, we create a plan to move in the direction to obtain employment in the areas of interest.

  1. Job Search Assistance

Job Search Assistance can be performed on-site using computers to research prospective employment information and to apply to positions. Job Search Assistance can also be done off-site. KenCCID staff also support individuals who prefer to find a position by going into the community.

  1. Job Coaching

Our Job Coaches are trained to assist individuals who have obtained jobs. Coaches identify existing workplace supports. Coaches also help to facilitate the right type and intensity of support to help an individual become successful. Our goal at KenCCID is for each individual achieves a certain level independence based on their needs.

  1. Job Development

KenCCID’s Job Developer works diligently with individuals who are new to our program. The Job Developer identifies prospective employers and forms partnerships with community businesses. The Job Developer can also identify various volunteer opportunities to help individuals participate in the community.

The employment services offered at KenCCID give individuals with disabilities more than just a job. We also give these individuals:
