Central to KenCCID’s mission and one of our core values is to empower the people in our care. Many of our individuals choose to work and we collaborate with numerous employers in the Philadelphia area. We provide Community Integration Employment Services, which include; Individualized Work Assessments, On and Off-Site Job Search Assistance, Job Coaches, and Job Development. Cherie’s story exemplifies the growth and success of this program.
Cherie took the initiative to approach the Job developer at KenCCID, establish a relationship, and request services for herself.
Ms. Harris faced several challenges along the way, and at times became frustrated when seeking resolution to those challenges. Over time, when faced with issues such as the stalling of the shredding machine, Cherie progressed from tears to being able to ask questions and seek assistance.
KenCCID, Cherie began her employment with Five Guys in September, 2017. She progressed through the challenges she faced, and sought help from those around her to resolve issues that may have otherwise prompted her to leave her position.
Everyone who knows Cherie, knows her as a strong-willed, independent and outspoken woman, who also has a heart to help others, and make people happy, all of which she brings to her position of Porter at Five Guys. Her gift for gab comes in handy as she interacts with customers and ensures they have a good experience. Cherie’s manager, Corvah Barbu, at Five Guys had this to say about Ms. Harris:
“Cherie is a very hard worker that demonstrates enthusiasm at all times. She works well with others. She takes initiative to follow through with other tasks, as she sees needed, while eager to learn new things.”
Even through the bumps in the road, Cherie has maintained her employment by being able to accept supervision and redirection, and continues on the path to success with Five Guys. Though there may be more lessons to learn, Cherie has flourished here, and we wish to continue alongside her on her journey.
