Are you talking to me?

Chatbot screen saying Welcome

In our previous post, we highlighted the transformative impact that AI-powered assistive technologies can have on persons with disabilities.

As much as this is true, AI also has the potential to negatively impact the lives of persons with disabilities.

Chatbots have become increasingly common whenever you visit a company’s website.

However, some of these chatbot technologies may inadvertently prevent persons with disabilities from engaging with the chatbot.

Persons who are blind or with a vision disability use screen readers to access websites.

If your chatbot button is at the very bottom of your screen, they will need to have the entire page read before they even get to the button, or realize there is a button there in the first place.

If a chatbot is used during the hiring process, this will severely impact the ability of persons with disabilities to navigate your site.

Orange Digital Accessibility provides several tips to get around this limitation.

Remember to incorporate accessibility into your website design to ensure you can chat with everyone, and not just a select few.
