Jason was honored after being chosen by his colleagues to be the CHM (Community House Manager) of the Year. Congrats Jason!
We asked Jason a few questions about his job at KenCCID and what it means to him. It’s easy to see why he was nominated when you read his responses below:
How does your role as a CHM affect the daily lives of the individuals we serve?
“It affects the individuals tremendously due to the fact some individuals we serve does not have family involvement. KenCCID as a whole is their family. So if we dedicate our time, care and love to the individuals it will help with them physically state as well as their mental state. Since I started with KenCCID in November 2017, I have noticed that if you just spend time with those individuals it really makes a difference in their lives and that’s the real payment. Helping others is a blessing and is usually over shadowed sometimes in life. It takes a village not just to raise a child but to raise a society in this dark time we are living in with all that’s going on in America.”
Tell us about your daily activities and how they inspire, encourage and motivate our individuals?
“Our daily activities depend on the individual and their needs. However, I try my best to make sure that they are living a normal life. I notice while out the community with our individuals, and interacting with them, all they want is to be treated normal. I encourage my individuals by first treating them with respect and giving them choices on what they want to do. I motivate them by pushing them to achieve more. I let them know it’s ok if you don’t reach your goal, because as long as you have a team, loved ones, people that care, you will never fail because they won’t let you give up. It’s all about progress and it does not matter how small or how big. It’s about living your life one day at a time and with purpose. The individuals that we serve can understand that if we continue to push and encourage them.”
How does working with our individuals motivate you to do more in your daily life?
“Working with our individuals has motivated me the most because through all the pain, struggle, and obstacles they have been through in their lives, they still smile. That’s very deep for me because I use to take that for granted. I have lost two individuals since working with KenCCID and it personally took a toll on me mentally because I treated them like my family. As I’m answering these questions all I can do is think about their smile, our interactions, going to doctor’s appointments, sitting down eating dinner, watching TV or just talking to them.
Those the things us as a people take for granted. The time we have with people we care about we don’t cherish that time. Everything that I have learned while working with KenCCID has made me a better father to my son, because I understand how important the small things are in life. So I make it my business to sit and eat with my son. I make it my business to talk and laugh with him. I make it my business to talk with him every day and let him know that I love him. My son is only 4 years old but he knows and he can feel the love. That’s how our individuals are they can feel the love even though some days can be rough but they know and can understand. So that’s what motivate me every day and that’s why I go so hard at work. Its really for those individuals.”
Thank you Jason for all your hard work and effort throughout the year!
