50 Years of Unwavering Support for Individuals with Disabilities

1974.

It’s been 50 years since a young mother struggled to find suitable care for her son with disabilities.

It’s been 50 years since she decided to start her own nonprofit organization to provide the care for her son and the children of many other families in the Philadelphia area.

It’s been 50 years since KenCCID has been a pillar of support for the community of individuals with disabilities.

A look back in time

At KenCCID, we’re celebrating 50 years of uninterrupted care and support to the community.

Let’s take a look back in time to 1974.

In 1974, Gerald Ford was sworn in as the 38th President of the United States of America.

In 1974, it would be another year before the War in Vietnam would end with the Fall of Saigon.

In 1974, Gladys Knight’s “The best thing that ever happened to me” was a huge hit.

In 1974, Stevie Wonder topped the charts with three number ones.

In 1974, Elvis Preseley was still actively touring around the US.

In 1974, a gallon of gas was on average only 59 cents.

In 1974, the average home cost $35,900.

In 1974, the Beatles were no more.

50 Years of Care

In the 50 years since the charter was signed, officially launching KenCCID as a nonprofit, much has changed in the world. The one thing that has remained the same is our unwavering care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The numbers speak for themselves:

160 individuals with disabilities found a home at KenCCID.

40 jobs have been secured for individuals with disabilities through KenCCID.

24 former residents of the infamous Pennhurst Institution found a home with us.

30 homes are currently operated by KenCCID to provide a safe and nurturing environment.

2024.

In our 50th year of operation, we remain indebted to the many Direct Service Professionals (DSP), nurses, maintenance technicians, office workers, and stakeholders who keep KenCCID running. Without our team of selfless individuals, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

In May, the 5th month of the year 2024, we’re kicking off our $50 fundraising campaign.

This year’s fundraising campaign is in honor of the 50 years we’ve spent providing value to the community of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

With your generous support of $50, we can continue our mission for another 50 years!

To promote dignity and choice to empower Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities reach their full potential.
